The Yiling Laozu’s Lost Spells, A.K.A. The Weird Ones
A Collection by Mo Xuanyu
aka another crack au
Edit: Now with a part 2!
When the Yiling Laozu died his work was divided up by its use
The Lans took anything deemed undemonic, like Spirit Lures and Demonic Compasses
The Jins snuck out anything dangerous under the lie they’d destroy it
And the rest of it…it got scattered everywhere to every lowdown village and wanna be demonic cultivator.
At first, no one thought this would be a problem. It’s not like anything dangerous is out there, and not just anyone can culitvate
But they forgot two very important things: 1) no one needs to be a culivator to use demonic cultivation and 2) people will find a way to use anything
Soon the culivation world is overrun by really, really weird cases that their cultivators just can’t keep up with
And when I say weird, I do mean weird here’s a look at some of the cases:
Case 1) Giant rabbits the size of houses have been spotted in a mountain near a sheparding villiage eating all their feilds. They asked Hanguang-jun for help. Hanguang-jun went up but he did not come back down. It is suspected the giant bunnies ate him
Case 2) the dancing radishes. Every night on the full moon radishes come to life in a villiage and dance on their beds. Its not hurting anyone, but its really freaking them out
Case 3) dog begone spells. A whole villiage has lost all its dogs and no one knows why. Some of them were really expensive spirit puppies, including one jin guangyao was planning to purchase for his nephew
Case 4) the case of the running radishes. Radishes are leaving their beds a d running away as fast as thry can. Every time someone gets close they keep moving farther away
Case 5) flowers flying to lan clan ribbons and sticking. Every flower, even ones on stems. The lans are walking around covered in flowers and it is becoming a Problem.
Case 6) radishes that look like potatoes. Again? What is with this guy and radishes? This spell would have been harmless if it hadn’t been in a villiage with two rival families of radishes and potatoes. The potato family is accusing the radish family of sabatoge and the radish family is accusing the potato family of stealing their crop
Case 7) Lotus soup possession talisman. If u stick this talisman on someone, they will make lotus and pork rib soup. Always. Again and again. They can’t stop. Everything they make is soup. They’re crying.
Case 8) the peacock tail talisman. Every jin who comes into contact with this talisman will get a peacock tail. They can’t get rid of them. This is a problem.
Case 9) grass butterflies come to life. Again, not harmful, but very annoying. All children love it. All adult toy sellers do not. Their wares keep flying away. Please someone save their buisnesses
Case 10) hug jiang cheng. You must hug jiang cheng. You can’t help it. You can’t stop. If u don’t give him one hug a day you will die. Jiang cheng is furious. Fix this now.
Case 11) give Hanguang-jun compliments. Not hard, no one would notice if it wasn’t stuck to Su She. He hates it. He’s sueing for emotional damages. You better fix this quick!
And these are just the first ones! In times like this, people look to the Chief Cultivator. But the Chief cultivator is off flirting with women, so like all things, this falls to jin guangyao to solve.
So Jin guangyao decides he needs to get those documents back, and who better to send to handle the weird cases no one wants to touch than his weird half brother who’s so fasinated by demonic cultivation?
Thus Mo Xuanyu finds himself with his dream job: chasing down the yiling Laozu’s lost works! What more could he want?
The first case is easy. He goes up and finds Hanguang-jun asleep cuddled in a pile of giant rabbits. All he has to do is find out where the talisman is and remove them. The hard part is getting Hanguang-jun to stop looking like he just killed his wife. Mo xuanyu didn’t know Hanguang-jun had puppy eyes. Since when did he have puppy eyes? Eventually to make him feel better he helps him take all the rabbits to cloud recesses. And at another puppy dog eyed, gloomy look like he’s denied him his long lost lover, Mo Xuanyu gives him the talisman too. Jin Guangyao’s not happy, but really, what was Mo Xuanyu supposed to do? Not make that handsome man smile again?
The second case is a lot harder. Nothing Mo Xuanyu does gets the radishes to stop singing. No spells, not talismans, nothing. The only thing left is to dig them all up and throw them deep into the woods where no one will have to listen. Mo Xuanyu’s ears are still bleeding from their reedy songs
The third case is where Mo Xuanyu feels a bit of hope in Yiling laozu’s work really paying off. Lots of his bullies at the jin sect have dogs. If he can make them vanish, he’ll be safe! Unfortunately this spell makes all dogs leave, or none at all. And even when he finds a way to undo it, he can’t afford to copy it out because jin guangyao took one of the pups to give to jin ling, and if mo xuanyu makes the grumpy jin ling’s beloved new puppy go away, he’ll be kicked out of Koi Tower and feel bad besides
The radishes are back, but they run now. They aren’t even violent, u can’t use them for anything! They just run! It takes mo xuanyu months to catch one and track it back to its home. The radishes have built a radish villige in the forest. Radish farmers radish shop keepers and radish children. Mo xuanyu feels like he’s stepped into a children’s book. Then he hears the familiar reedy songs and it becomes a nightmare. The running radishes found the singing ones. They interbred. Now they have musical theatre radishes. Mo Xuanyu booked it out of there as fast as he can. Fuck the Yiling Laozu. Mo Xuanyu isn’t messing with that
When the flowers stick to the lan, Mo Xuanyu gives up all previous respect for the yiling laozu. He was clearly an idiot. Or a cutsleeve. Mo Xuanyu hopes he’s a cutsleeve. It would be nice to have someone like him to look up too. At least he got to see Hanguang-jun again. He was very nice and showed Mo Xuanyu the back of cloud recesses, where some very familiar rabbits were very happy to greet him.
By case six mo Xuanyu takes back every positive thought he’d ever had about the yiling laozu. He’s not just an idiot, he’s The Idiot. And the potato family and radish family are just as idiotic as he is. Why is he overseeing a trial over radishes turned potatoes? Why is everyone so invested in his investigation? What is wrong with everyone here? (It was the radish family’s son. He was trying to grow potatoes to impress the potato families daughter. They get married and invite Mo Xuanyu to the wedding)
Case seven brings Mo’s respect for the yiling laozu back. The lotus soup spell is terrifying. They can’t stop making soup, or crying. It takes everything he has to stop it, and it isn’t working. He only figures out how to fix it when he says “thank you shijie” on reflex as his infected shijie shoved some soup in his arms. That made her stop. It has to be those words exactly though. This is easy if its a girl. Not so easy when its a 60 year old elderly man.
Case 8 Mo Xuanyu loves his peacock tail. Its proof he’s a jin, and oh so stylish. He’s gonna paint his face to match. But the rest of the jin sect hate it, so he reluctantly figures out how to get rid of it. All it takes is a humble apology, which is way harder to get jins to do than it should be. The last to lose it is jun ling, not because he can’t apologize, but because he likes his tail too, since his Jiujiu told him it made him look “just like his father”. Mo Xuanyu only gets him to get rid of it by promising to sneak the talisman to him in his rooms. They can enjoy their tails together in privacy.
Case 9. Nothing Mo Xuanyu can do about those grass butterflies. He chases them around with a net anyways. Then he gives up and tells the salesmen to start selling grass butterflies in cages instead. As he leaves all the little kids in the villiage trail after him and ask if it was really the yiling laozu who did this, and does Mo Xuanyu work for him, and can he teach them? Mo Xuanyu doesn’t have the heart to tell them that the yiling laozu’s magic isn’t usally all butterflies and rainbows.
Case 10 is terrifying. Who hugs jiang cheng? How do u survive it? Fortunately by this time Mo Xuanyu has a bit of a reputation. People know he deals with “the weird stuff” so jiang cheng doesn’t kill him on sight. It still takes forever to undo the spell. Jiang cheng isn’t any help. He acts so mad, but he’s totally hugging everyone infected back just as fiercely as they hug him. Eventually they find out its another password based release. The password is “good job didi” jiang cheng storms away furiously to break things with his whip. Mo xuanyu swears he heard loud sobbing too, but he’s not saying anything.
Case 11. The yiling laozu was definitely a cutsleeve. There’s no way someone makes a talisman to compliment Hanguang-jun without romantic intent. Mo Xuanyu is privately thrilled to know this, and see what a cutsleeve can do. He is less thrilled to have to work with su she. At least the way to break the spell is funny. Seeing su she stutteringly shout how hanguang-jun is better than him in everyway and then storm out in fury made his year.
The more Mo Xuanyu works on these weird cases, the more he feels like he’s learning about the true nature of the yiling laozu. Unfortunately, most of these cases do not result in easy solutions for the jin, and Mo’s position is just as perilous as before. Worse really, since as his reputation for handling weird borderline demonic stuff, people begin to wonder how, and look to jin sect to see who trained him.
So yeah, Mo Xuanyu gets framed for incest and kicked out of jin tower. He’d always been working with the weird, how far of a stretch would it be to say he’d go mad?
Mo Xuanyu is devistated, all his contacts, all the goodwill he’d earned from other sects and villiages, all gone when that rumor gets out. He can’t bear to face them and see the disgust on their faces
So he decides to turn to the only person who’s weird enough to not judge him
The one person he has enough blackmail on to ensure it.
The yiling laozu
It takes a while, but Mo Xuanyu is very familiar with how the yiling laozu alters talismans and spells at this point, and after three years and a very handy outline from Nie Huasang, he finds a way to bring back the yiling laozu
Without dying
Staring at his hero, his idol, and the biggest pain in his ass, mo xuanyu’s mind is racing. He has so many questions. Which should he ask first? Did u ever tell hanguang-jun u loved him? How’d u handle everyone turning on u? Did u really invent demonic cultivation all on your own?
But in the end the one that slips out is: Why do u have so many spells about radishes?
Wei ying blushes “i had a lot if radishes okay?!!! They were on my mind a lot!”
“That’s an understatement!” Mo xuanyu counters. “Do u have any idea how bad radishes sing? They invented muscial theatre! Theatre!”
“Really? Can I see?!!!” Wei yings eyes light up, and Mo xuanyu realizes he’s made a terrible mistake. The only thing worse than a mad scientists spells is a mad scientist’s curiousity. He’s going to have to follow this guy around the whole of the cultivation world to try and prevent him from making things even weirder!
Ah well, at least he’s not lonely anymore.

看客散去唯你我不忘 | the world forgets but i still remember you, by prettyxianxian
Wei Ying made his way down the staircase, feeling a bit unsettled by the wailing sirens of the police cars surrounding the plane. Something had to be really wrong for them to receive such a welcome. The grim expressions on the uniformed people’s faces in front of him were not reassuring at all.
“Uh, there are some people here who need assistance. What’s wrong?” Wei Ying asked out loud. Hearing him, a man dressed in formals stepped forward, clearing his throat.
“Well, the problem is that your flight was supposed to land in Shanghai on July 12th, 2009…today is July 12th 2022. All the passengers of this flight had been missing and eventually presumed dead for thirteen years.”

i like your shoelaces!, by Anonymous
"'Unrequited crush culture is watching your crush drenched in blue paint after tripping on a bucket full of blue paint, and still think that he is the prettiest person in the world.'" Jiang Cheng read aloud, lifting one of his eyebrows. "Yeah, what about it? Did you send this ask?"
"Nope!" Wei Wuxian grinned. "But I did get drenched in blue paint during Art Class last week, in that exact scenario! What are the odds?"
Story of a heart, by ThisIsWhereTheMagicHappens (8 chapters)
With an internal shudder, Lan Sizhui remembers Wei Wuxian’s words from yesterday’s evening after their dinner in the Jingshi: “Lan Zhan, Lan Zhan.” he had said with an unusually serious expression, swinging the wine jar in his hand, “If I would leave the Talisman the way it is now, you would even find me if I would be in trouble in a future reincarnation.”

吃一堑,长一智。, by Ididntrunawaythitimeright
He noticed when the look on Lan Zhan’s face changed. As if something within him had shuddered back to life, painful and quick. Like slipping a knife between someone's ribs and twisting.
Then panic had him wrapped it's cruel gelid grip. The space where Lan Wangji had been suddenly empty, a physical space inside Wei Wuxians chest suddenly carved away, gaping, hollow, then flooded with that same freezing terror.
He couldn't do this without him. He couldn't- He coudn't- air refused to slide down his throat. Refused to enter his lungs, or perhaps his lungs had been ripped from his being to make space for the cavity inside him. He couldn't breathe. He was going to-a blur of white and blue tumbled towards him like a god cast from the heavens, a star shot across the sky, fleeting and beautiful and sorrowing, and horror tore into him beside that panic as Lan Zhan came hurtling towards him.
He had stood so close to the ledge. Wei Wuxian had not been falling long. He was so close.
It was like he was on fire. He was burning up. He was frozen. He was closing in, and Wei Wuxian could do nothing to stop him.
or
Wei Wuxian falls and Lan Wangji jumps. It changes everything.
Here With Me, by iamwish
Wen Qing finds him on the roof of where he’s been staying, nursing a jar of Sishu’s wine.
“Wei Wuxian! What are you doing up there?”
Wei Wuxian hasn’t had nearly enough wine to get tipsy, let alone drunk enough for his words to slur, but he slurs them anyway for nostalgia. “What if Lan Zhan doesn’t fall in love with me?”
-
Wei Wuxian finds himself in the past, a few months before the Gusu Lan lectures, and decides that his best shot at hiding his trauma fixing the future is faking his own kidnapping and asking Wen Qing who all he needs to kill before she or someone she trusts is in charge of QishanWen. Clearly, he thought this through.
Or: Wei Wuxian creates a No War!AU, and then he has to live in it.
Pocketful of Soul, by Jenrose
“It’s a kid?” Wei Wuxian says to Wen Qing. “What’s a kid doing dabbling with the ghostly path? Talking to my ghosts?” He sounds indignant.
“Perhaps you should ask him,” Wen Qing says dryly.
“Kid, why are you using demonic cultivation?” Wei Wuxian asks.
“It works better when you want to work with spirits, rather than fight them,” Mo Xuanyu says. “And I’m not using demonic cultivation, I merely greeted your spirit and told him I was a friend and needed to talk to you. Well, something to that effect. Intention matters more than intonation with this stuff.”
“Who taught you that?” Wei Wuxian asks, his voice shifting from indignation to intrigue.
“You did,” Mo Xuanyu says. “Or well, your notes did, hmmm… five or six years from now.”
Wei Wuxian wags a scolding finger at him and says, “You should be developing your golden core, not dabbling around with things you don’t under—Did you say five years from now? As in, in the future?”
OR: What if instead of Sacrifice Summon, Mo Xuanyu discovered Wei Wuxian’s flawed time travel talisman?
A Mo Xuanyu-centric found family time travel looping epic.
Fic is complete, posting frequently.
Whatever it takes, by Moonlit_dewdrops
Jiang Cheng and Wei WuXian are sent back to the past. This time, they can save everyone they love. They can make the right choices. They can learn to trust one another. However, everything comes with a price.
Talking is Better than Silence, by KuroiWrites (blackcatkuroi)
"This path harms the body. Harms the nature of one's heart even more." Lan WangJi spoke those words upon first seeing Wei Wuxian alive after the Burial Mounds, unknowing of the truth.
Wei Wuxian, though, didn't need to be told, and he accepted that he'd lost whatever he might have once had with Lan WangJi. Several nights later, in a moment of drunken weakness under the melancholic light of a full moon, he tells Lan WangJi the Truth. He'd never needed Lan WangJi to spell out his fate for him - he'd known since he walked out of the Burial Mounds alive.
But one small bit of honestly can go a long way, and Talking is far better than Silence.
finding you always, all ways, by BlueFrogs
Wei Wuxian’s stomach drops as he sees Wen Ning reel his arm backwards, aimed straight for his shijie’s husband.
His body moves before he can think about it. In an instant, he pushes Jin Zixuan out of the way, into safety.
A soft gasp is punched from him, as Wen Ning’s fist runs straight through his abdomen.
Wei Wuxian thinks that beyond the pain, it’s ironic how hollow he feels. He never thought he could feel more empty than when he lost his golden core, but it seems that having a gaping hole cut through him could do the trick.
---
Wei Wuxian dies instead of Jin Zixuan at Qiongqi Path. This changes everything.
Truths Laid Bare For All, by Preludian_Staves
The betrothal letter comes in the Springtime with a Lan escort, changing how events happen in Wei Wuxian's life.
AKA Wangxian meets early before the Cloud Recesses lectures and slowly starts moderately sooner, some things change and others stay moderately the same. Plus WWX flourishing under the tutelage of the Lans when there isn't prickly Heir or his equally prickly mother lurking around that needs near constant appeasement and a truth serum is involved somewhere in the course of things.
A-Ying Lives Alone, by DizziDreams
Lan Qiren approaches, trying not to frown as he looks down at the young boy in his strange clothes. “Young man, are your parents at work? They should not have left you home alone without a caretaker."
"No, shushu!" The boy shakes his head vigorously, large eyes growing wide. "A-Ying lives alone!"
Couldn't Scream Couldn't Shout, by mermorgie
Frustrated and desperate to stop hearing Wei Wuxian’s voice echo in his ears, Lan Wangji makes a mistake with the Lan silencing spell that he cannot undo.
Temporarily muted, Wei Wuxian struggles to pretend that he’s fine, while Lan Wangji struggles to make it up to him.
You Double-faced Entendre, by pink-lotus-pods (Waterlogged_fireflies)
"Wei Wuxian! You will be charged-"
“First of all, my name is Yuandao, and second of all, you aren't a judge, but you’re the one who’s got me tied up like a chicken! Let me go, damn it, I need to get back to my chickens and my farm!” Yuandao struggled violently, but the thin, golden ropes were a lot stronger than they looked.
The man in gold on the frankly, tastelessly ostentatious throne spluttered, turning the same colour as the cauliflower that he liked to put in his stews.
“Wow. You were right, he really doesn’t remember.” A man built like a mountain whistled, his face twisted into something that looked like amusement. “Either that, or he’s a world class actor.”
“For the last time, I’m just a farmer!”
-
Or, an amnesiac Wei Wuxian wakes up, gets himself a new family and is immediately roped into a political schism, EXACTLY in that order. He is very unhappy about having his cottagecore life uprooted.
Updates will be once every two weeks. Some tags have been hidden until the chapter will be posted, but there will be additional warnings in the chapter notes should you want to skip a particular scene
General:
and the other gold, by ryfkah
“What,” Wen Qing said, “do they teach all you Jiangs? Do they raise you on nothing but ballads and martyrdom?”
(or, the one where Jiang Yanli manages to slide in before Wei Wuxian to sacrifice her golden core)
Two Heart As One, by Shadoak_uwu
Wei Wuxian and The Junior Quarter were thrown into the past when they almost died because of an assassination from Jin Guanyao followers.
With his baby 8 month old in his stomach, will Wei Wuxian manage to go back with the Juniors to their own timeline, or he need to stay there and create a No war Au so everyone can finally be happy.

WIP Monday (?)
Tagged by @belleslettres-love, thanks hun! To do this...on Thursday XD
I just came off a long writing block/dry spell soooo I’m not doing much tbh
Recently Finished:
Hmmm I did write and post a Ginsy drabble on one of my side AO3s a couple of days ago.
I also finished a MDZS fic centered on Lan Xichen drawn out of seclusion when Lan Wangji gets de-aged. But I don’t think I’ll post that, I’m not happy with it and may try to start over.
I have...several other things that are finished but not online, including some Spirk stuff...I have a hoarding problem.
Current WIP:
I always have so many wips...but it’s been a long time since I worked on them since I was on such a long dry spell and before that was focusing on getting my old fics back up. I think the main one is a 50k+ Drarry fic that’s plot based. It’s the one I worked on the most recently at least, though that was a couple of months ago now. Tbh, I’m just feeling so meh about the HP fandom lately so it’s hard to bring myself to work on it, or any of the HP prompts I have waiting (esp since they’re all very similar to each other and all scenarios I’ve written a lot already), though I did enjoy writing that Ginsy fic =)
So what I’m working on instead:
I just started a new MDZS fic yesterday and got to 5.2k so far =) it’s basically a companion fic to the de-aged Lan Wangji one I wasn’t happy with, but it’s Jiang Cheng confronted with both Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji de-aged during a night hunt, him taking them to the Cloud Recesses to drop Lan Wangji off to be cared for by his family (where the Lan Xichen fic started) and then takes Wei Wuxian back to Lotus Pier to watch him and wait for the magic to wear off. Though I’m not even up to Lan Wangji being dropped off yet and it’s already over 5k so it’s gonna get longer than I thought XD the Lan Xichen version only got to 6.2k.
I’m not gonna lie, I’m really mainly writing it cos I want to write Jiang Cheng eventually cuddling a de-aged Wei Wuxian and some of their pain to heal. It was meant to be a bit funny to begin with, what with Jiang Cheng dealing with both at first, but of course its turning out not funny at all XD esp since he’s mistrustful to begin with and doesn’t believe Wei Wuxian really lost his adult mind/memories.
I’m not actually a fan of de-aged fics, someone prompted me to write wwx caring for de-aged lwj but I’m too squicked out by de-aged fics with ships, but I thought about it long enough to consider Lan Xichen caring for Lan Wangji, which was a cute thought even though my execution made it all angst, and Jiang Cheng caring first for both of them while they travel, and then Wei Wuxian in Lotus Pier, which again, angst. But I also like the idea of him being confronted with a pre-Lotus Pier Wei Wuxian who doesn’t even know him yet, because while he knows that Wei Wuxian was on the streets as a child and all that entailed, it’s something else entirely for him to be confronted with it now, so many years later, after and with all the pain between them and when he’s old enough to really understand the impact of it all, and after he’s helped raise a child himself (wish we had more canon material on him helping raise Jin Ling but we don’t so I’m just dropping in some made up moments that are hopefully realistic to them, and some empty nest feelings that spring up when dealing with children again) and has parenting instincts battling his personal issues with Wei Wuxian and issues with expressing his feelings.
Also? After Lotus Pier burning down and the loss of life in the past, I imagine all of the YunmengJiang sect would be very protective of children as the future of the sect and that might come into play as well. Lots of conflicting instincts and feelings for Jiang Cheng to work through? It’s a child, but it’s also Wei Wuxian, Yiling Laozu...
I dunno, I’m just very curious about this situation and the dynamics and I write to explore things so there we go XD will it get finished? who knows. will it be any good if I do finish it? who knows XD but I’m enjoying myself so far
Plot Bunnies:
I am always overrun with plot bunnies XD
Lately I’m obssessed with MDZS so they’re mainly for that. I want to write a bunch of red string of fate pieces after thinking about that for a bunch of different characters and ships and spewing out angsty headcanons the other day.
I also have a heartsong soulmates au idea for Xicheng that I really want to write. Wangxian is otp, but I love rarepairs so much and esp Xicheng and Sangxian rn
Also have an idea for Jiang Cheng accidentally dragging Lan Xichen out of seclusion, or Lan Xichen spontaneously coming out on his own and bumping into Jiang Cheng and them having an impromptu adventure where they sort out their issues by not sorting out their issues XD also drunk Lan Xichen, I have a need. I know he can canonically use his core to counteract the effect of alcohol BUT what if he decided not to? hmmmmmm? Jiang Cheng dealing with a drunk Lan would be hilarious (altho knowing me it would not end up hilarious XD but angsty instead...and in fact, I already have some angsty drunk!lxc ideas 👀)
I also want to write some Cloud Recesses Trio shenanigans, mainly with Sangxian ship after that first one I wrote. And I definitely want to write them fishing XD that stream scene was such a cute scene in the drama
Oh, and of course, I want to write more of my merman!Lan Wangji fic =D
Anyway, tagging people:
@rockmarina @gloster @parkkate @aniimone @musicplotter and I know I’m forgetting more writer friends but I didn’t get much sleep last night and was woken up really early by a package being delivered that needed signing for, and I’m only halfway through my coffee...
As always, if you wanna do it but are anxious about just doing it without being tagged just say I tagged you, it’s all good =)

The Yiling Laozu’s Lost Spells part 2 AKA Chaos in Canon
 part 1
Wei ying and mo xuanyu were originally planning to just run away, but alas, the Mo family plus the lans plus a freaky hand get in the way
Seriously, what was with that freaky hand? Mo Xuanyu’s used to working with weird stuff but nothing like that. Was that what normal cultivators deal with?
He tries to ask Wei Ying, but Wei ying is to busy freaking out over Hanguang-jun showing up, and what if he saw me???!
Mo xuanyu (excited to see his OTP happening): If you’re worried about looking your best, I can help with that.
Wei ying: I don’t want to look my best! I’m the fourth most handsome master! He’ll recognize me! I want you to make me look so different he’ll never guess it was me! Can you do that?
Mo Xuanyu, who both the soul of a theatre kid and literal years of petty frustrations to work out, was more than willing to take up the task. (But not too bad, he does want his OTP to reunite after all) Thus Wei Ying becomes his “Poor old senile grandpa.” Complete with artfully drawn wrinkles and a shawl for warmth.
Wei ying is having way to much fun pretending to be senile though, so Mo Xuanyu guesses he lost there.
As they travel Mo Xuanyu asks him about the talismans. The Radishes, the release statements, the grass butterflies, he’s had literal years to study these talismans and he doesn't know how they work fully, he has questions.
Wei ying is thrilled to see someone respects him for something other than his demonic cultivation or the sword path he can no longer follow. He is happy to tell him what he remembers, but its not much, he wrote most of them in a sleepy haze at 2 in the morning, and he kind of suspects Mo Xuanyu knows more than he does at this point.
Is Mo Xuanyu mad that his whole job is the result of a guy’s sleepy 2am ideas? A little. But at least the Yiling Patriach seems mostly interested in sticking around and helping him instead of going off to form his own cultivation path with all his fake-ass fans. Take that Xue Yang. They’re gonna do their own thing, and it’s gonna be awesome
Then they run into Jin Ling
Jin Ling does not take well to seeing his Uncle who one day was there, serving him tea with a peacock tail, and the next day was gone and everyone started calling an incestuous cut-sleeve. He didn’t even say goodbye!
Wei ying does not take well to Jin ling not taking well, and proceeds to insult him.
Mo xuanyu slaps a hand over his mouth and says to ignore his “poor senile grandpa”
Wei Ying: Yeah! Respect your elders kid!
Mo Xuanyu: shut up I am begging you
Wei Ying then tries to use a talisman to release little apple but grabs the wrong one
It was the peacock tail one
Mo Xuanyu tackles Wei ying
Jiang cheng comes into the scene to see his nephew and his nephew’s weird uncle have peacock tails, the latter of which is wrestling an old man under a donkey still caught up in the nets.
Jiang Cheng: ....Weird shit?
Jin Ling (nodding): weird shit
As if it couldn’t get any worse, Hanguang-jun appears to free Little Apple, and see Mo Xuanyu and “the old man” rolling around in the dirt.
There’s no way Mo Xuanyu can reveal to him who the old man is now, Not when he saw him rolling in the ground with the love of Hanguang-jun’s life. The assumptions he’ll make!
Mo Xuanyu: I”m taking my very old and totally senile grandpa back on the night hunt now! Bye!
Lan Sizuhi: A night hunt? With a senile elder? Are you sure you don’t want us to look after him until its over? We have Tea!
Mo Xuanyu (shoving Wei ying forward faster): NO thanks! We’re good!
They should have left right then, but they didn’t want to draw any suspicion. That was a mistake
“Did you make this?” Mo Xuanyu yells to Wei ying as they are running from the giant fairy statue.
“No! Why would you think I made it?” Wei ying yells back. “I don’t make every weird thing that happens to us!”
“Yes! Yes you are!”
The statue grabs Jin Ling, and to save him, MO Xuanyu pulls out his most dangerous talisman: the cooking one.
Now the statue is trying to cook and use jin ling as an ingredient.
Wei ying summons Wen ning just as MO Xuanyu tries again.
Now Wen ning is hit with the cooking talisman.
There’s a cook off, Wen Ning is winning. Wen Ning makes rock soup out of the statue. Wen Ning is now trying to force the juniors to eat it. The juniors are crying. So is Wen Ning.
Mo Xuanyu realizes one of the is going to have to hug the ghost general to make this stop. He is not doing it. Even if the ghost general is kinda hot for a corpse. He’s not risking getting fed rock soup.
Wei ying does it.
And jiang sheng comes in. Again.
Jiang Cheng: Wei WuXian!
Mo Xuanyu: NO it was to release the spell I swear!
Jiang cheng whips Wei ying. Mo Xuanyu watches with baited breath, terrified he’ll have lost his friend before he even really got to know him. Hanguang-jun jumps in to Wei ying’s side but its to late, he’s hit. He goes down, But to the shock of all of them, Wei ying gets back up.
“You whipped me!” He says in his absolute worst old man voice. “Unfillital! No respect for your elders! Hitting old men who can’t defend themselves, what has this generation come too? Humph!”
Hanguang-Jun gently helps him to his feet, placing himself between Jiang cheng and wei ying. Wei ying blushes
“Oh now here’s a polite young man,” Wei ying leans into Lan zhan’s space. “And so handsome too! I could eat you up!”
Wei ying thinks he’s being that annoying type of elder who pinches your cheeks and makes lan zhan want to leave quicker. Mo xuanyu wishes Wei ying would stop flirting with his boyfriend before he gets them caught.
“Mark your words,” Goes Lan Zhan, sweeping up Wei ying in his arms.
Mo xuanyu wants to faint.
“why is Hanguang-jun taking that old man?” one of the juniors mutters
“It’s a cutsleeve thing!” MO xuanyu blurts out. “We like older men!” then winces at the very stupid excuse.
“You would know.” goes the junior nastily. Mo Xuanyu wilts, remembering for the first time in a while what all these people think of him.
Jin ling proceeds to hit said junior in the back with his bow. No one insults his uncle but him.
“You’d better come with us,” Lan Sizuhi offers, slipping beside Mo Xuanyu. “You'll be a welcome guest at Cloud recesses, and you’ll want to be with your grandpa of course.”
“I’m allowed?” Mo Xuanyu asked, remembering that Lan Xichen was close to Jin Guangyao. He’d been certain they’d heard the rumors and didn’t want him anywhere near their precious pure cloud recesses.
“Of course,” Lan Sizuhi smiles. “As if we’d ever ban the brave hero who saved Hanguang-jun and all those rabbits.”
“And the flowers,” Mo xuanyu reminds him, and follows.
